Today was the first nice sunny winter day we’ve had for awhile. Dino has started looking towards spring and is preparing our chicken coop so that we’ll have chickens in by September. He’s got his next batch of seedlings ready to go into the veggie patch and I’m starting to think what my next cooking challenge will be. Last summer I made batches of tomato sauce and green tomato relish from the abundance of fruit we produced. Given the way the avocado and fig trees are going, I’m thinking those two will feature…
We’re still getting our own goodies from the backyard – today’s bowl is going into dinner and Dino’s request for a Lemon Meringue Pie, which I plan to bake tomorrow.
Lately, I’ve been missing Bali and craving some Balinese food to bring me a bit of Bali at home. I’m cheating though – I’m trying a Rendang spice mix and I’d like to say it would be better if I mixed my own spices, but for one, it’s never going to be as good as it would be in Bali, and two, I’ve yet to find a good recipe. So tonight, I’m cheating.
